Student Life at Thornton High

How learners spend the hours between lessons — study habits, clubs, and the small routines that make a large school feel navigable.

Thornton High School is more than a timetable. Students build habits that travel with them after graduation: showing up prepared, asking better questions, and looking after the people beside them in the corridor.

Study rhythm

Since September 2022 tutor groups have used a shared weekly planner so coursework deadlines do not pile up silently. In March 2024 we trialled quieter library hours before mocks, which many IB students now treat as a regular focus block rather than a crisis response.

Clubs and community

Literature circles, maths clinics, and coding clubs sit alongside sports and service projects. We ask students to try at least one activity outside their strongest subject — curiosity is part of our vision language, not a slogan on a wall.

Settling mid-year

New arrivals often need both a locker key and a social landing place. Buddy introductions help, and families can read our family move notes when a household relocation coincides with the first weeks of school.
