For families

Family Move Notes

When a London relocation overlaps with Thornton term dates, small packing choices protect study time as much as they protect crockery.

International and UK families arrive throughout the year. Some move boroughs for a shorter commute; others land from overseas weeks before IB assessments. This page collects the advice pastoral staff repeat most often — without turning the school site into a removals brochure.

Align the calendar first

In November 2022 we began asking relocating families for provisional move dates during admissions interviews. By June 2023 tutors were sharing a simple checklist so coursework folders were labelled before boxes sealed. Those habits still matter in 2025–2026 intake conversations.

Protect the study corner

Pack seasonal clothes early; pack the student’s active desk last. A single clearly marked crate for chargers, current texts, and stationery prevents the classic “everything is here but nothing can be found” evening before a deadline.

Travel days and attendance

Tell the office if vans arrive on a school morning. Short authorised absences are easier to support when we know whether a student needs work sent digitally or a catch-up slot after the weekend.
