Our Education Vision

One of the core beliefs of everyone involved with Thornton High School is that for our pupils to thrive and develop their potential to the fullest, they need to be content. We know what every academic institution needs to excel:

  • Putting individuality on a pedestal.
  • Providing an academic environment that is both challenging and stimulating.
  • Encouraging every student to become the best version of themselves.

We also know that stereotypes have no place in a school environment. This is why you will not see them in Thornton High School either.

The vision we have for our school is that it is an environment that will prepare our students to face the challenges of the twenty-first century head-on. We know that the world is rapidly changing and we do everything necessary to ensure our school policies, academic practices and the overall atmosphere in our school don’t fall behind. The match between academic excellence and exemplary pastoral care is what we see as the key to successful modern high school education. It is also precisely what we offer to all our students. We also go the extra mile to make sure our high-quality education is available to as broad a range of pupils as possible.

Thornton High School is more than just a school. It is a community of considerate individuals who do whatever is necessary to look after themselves and the people around them. We try to understand the world through the lenses of curiosity, inclusivity, and diversity. To nurture self-awareness and strive for development in our students, we try to stimulate our students to be more aware of their social environment and how they can be a positive influence on it.

Our mission is to prepare our students to face what lies ahead and leave a positive mark on the world.

Dedication to High Achievement and Success

The end goal of our educational process is to make sure each student enrolled in Thornton High School excels in their academic endeavors. For that purpose, we follow all government guidelines and programs and build upon them by stimulating creative endeavors, critical thinking, and research skills. We try to develop problem-solving abilities and intellectual curiosity in all our classes. In that way, we teach our students to think outside of the box, which eventually helps them excel in whatever path they take on after leaving Thornton High School.

One of our most valuable assets is our cohesive community of parents who are directly involved in life at Thornton High School. From parent-teacher conferences to annual events and one-on-one meetings with our teachers, parents can be as involved with the school lives of their children as they want.

Best Packing Tips for People Moving Out

A big life change is ahead of you – you are moving out and starting a new life in a new place. They say moving is one of the most stressful events in one’s life. You have to be ready to embrace all the changes and learn to adjust to a new living environment. You have so many important decisions to make and plan an entire relocation from start to finish. But perhaps one of the most challenging moving tasks is packing everything you have in an organised and safe way.

The idea of packing everything you have can be overwhelming. As you look around you and imagine that each and every item has to be packed properly, loaded, transported and then unpacked at your new house, the level of difficulty of this task will become real. Therefore, don’t underestimate the complexity of this process. It is a doable task and it doesn’t have to turn into a nightmare as long as you have a proper packing strategy. Here are some of the best packing tips for those who are moving out of their home.

Set up the moving date

As soon as you decide to move, you need to start planning your relocation. You can start by pickinga moving date. Even though it might seem to you that you have plenty of time to do that, you don’t. The sooner you set your date, the more time you will have to make all necessary preparations. After you pick the day of your move, you will know how much time you have for each moving task, including packing. Make monthly, weekly and daily plans. The key to a successful removal is proper planning.

Time management

Once you set on a moving date, you can get on with some of the basic packing tasks. Make time for decluttering and getting rid of items you are not planning to move to your new home. Get the necessary packing supplies on time. You can also start packing items that are not essential, used frequently or seasonal, like holiday decorations, clothes, rarely used appliances and other possessions.

Ask friends to give you a hand

Coping with an experience that is as challenging as moving home is not easy when you do not have an extra pair of helping hand. Ask your friends or family to help you declutter, sort out items, pack or move furniture before or on your moving day. You can also use this opportunity to spend more time with them and enjoy their company.

Sort out and declutter

To prepare for packing, you first need to understand that the fewer items you have to move, the easier the entire removal will be- this is something that is also true when it comes to packing. So, before you pack all your items in boxes, go through everything you own and get rid of the clutter. Don’t wait to do this task until the actual packing day because that can be overwhelming. Sorting out will take some time. Divide your items into three different categories:

  • Items you are taking with you – irreplaceable and useful stuff
  • Items that are broken and cannot be used anymore – throw them away
  • Items you don’t need but are in a good condition – you can donate or give them to friends or family

If your friends are helping with that task, give them clear instructions. You want to have a full control over what stuff to keep, toss or donate. Therefore, make sure they ask before they do anything with your stuff.

Can you save money on packing supplies?

Now that you have decluttered, you have a clear idea of how many boxes and other moving supplies you will need for your upcoming removal. You will need a lot of clean and sturdy cardboard boxes, tape, scissors, bubble wrap, packing paper and other materials. You can try saving some money by acquiring a few boxes from local grocery shops, liquor stores etc. Since these places recycle boxes anyway, they will be happy to give you some for free. Just make sure you take only clean and dry ones to ensure that they will be able to handle the weight of the items you pack in them. As for the rest of the supplies, you can buy them at office equipment stores or from a trusted moving company.

Extra tips for packing like a pro

Prep tips Packing tips What movers won’t move
Dismantle beds and furniture Pack dishes vertically Cleaning supplies
Remove cables from appliances Pack books spine down Chemicals
Empty wardrobes and desk drawers Original boxes for electronics Pot plants
Tape the doors of appliances Pack clothes in wardrobe boxes Animals/pets

Why do you need a priority packing list?

As mentioned above, you can pack rarely used items and appliances first. This list can include stuff stored in your attic or garage, winter clothes if you are moving in summer, Christmas decorations and other belongings you can live without until you move at your new place. However, a priority packing list will help you keep the essential stuff for last, which also means that these will be the items that are unpacked and used first in your new home. Here, you can include some clothes, kitchen utensils, bathroom supplies, etc.

Pack like a pro

When packing, you need to have a proper strategy. If your new place has a layout similar to the one of our old home, you can pack room by room. Start with the hardest rooms and move to ones that are easier to pack. However, if your new home has a different setup, you might want to organise possessions slightly differently – pack for the new place, not your current one. You can make a list of rooms at your new place and organise possessions so that unpacking is easier and faster. Make sure you label each box and write down the contents so that you can find a certain item with no problems. Take photos of the items in each box to make the unpacking process even easier and faster.

Hire a reputable moving company

If the challenge of packing is too much for you or you don’t have enough time for DIY packing, you should consider relying on a packing and moving service in London. Not only do professional moving companies have experience and a dedicated team trained to pack each item strategically, safely and quickly, they also have all the necessary packing materials for the job. You will enjoy an extra peace of mind knowing that your belongings are packed safely.
